My Crochet Journal
Today I finished my second pair of baby sneakers, made for my brother-in-law as his girlfriend is expecting their first baby. Designed by Irene Strange, the pattern for these sneakers is from Inside Crochet April 2011, but you can also find it on Ravelry.com.
My brother-in-law and his girlfriend tend to like heavy metal type music and wrestling and the like, and so it was no surprise when they chose black when I asked them what colour baby sneakers they’d like…
I found working with the black yarn really difficult to see. My eyesight isn’t brilliant anyway but this was more difficult than normal. To add to that, the yarn I used was Stylecraft 4ply Special and it was splitting as I was working with it! A really terrible yarn to work with in my opinion.
The baby isn’t due until October and so I’m putting these to one side and give them nearer the time.
This isn’t the first time I completed this pattern. I also produced a pair of these for my friends baby earlier on this year…
I used Wendy Peter Pan DK to produce these and to be honest I’m a lot happier with these than the latest ones I’ve created, even though the pattern calls for more of a 4ply yarn. I guess the Wendy yarn is just a better quality than the Stylecraft 4ply. It would be interesting to try this pattern in a Wendy Peter Pan 4ply.
I think however with me creating these twice already it’s time for me to try a different baby shoe pattern. Perhaps this is one to return to with the Wendy Peter Pan 4ply at a later date.
